  • The number of arrests in the Nation’s cities, collectively, increased 1.1 percent in 2006 from the previous year’s figure.
  • The number of adults arrested in cities increased 1.1 percent in 2006; the number of juveniles arrested increased 0.7 percent.
  • The number of arrests for violent crime rose 0.4 percent, and for property crime, the number of persons arrested decreased 5.9 percent.
  • The number of juveniles arrested in 2006 rose 4.3 percent for violent crime and decreased 6.5 percent for property crime compared with data for 2005.
  • The number of adults arrested in 2006 declined 0.3 percent for violent crime and decreased 5.8 percent for property crime compared with the 2005 data.
  • The number of arrests for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased 3.6 percent during 2006 compared with the 2005 figure. The number of adults arrested for this crime decreased 4.5 percent; however, the number of juveniles arrested rose 4.2 percent.
  • The number of persons arrested for robbery increased 8.9 percent during 2006 compared to the previous year’s data; the number of juveniles arrested for this crime rose 19.9 percent, and the number of adults arrested for robbery increased 5.2 percent.
  • The number of arrests for drug abuse violations increased 2.4 percent during 2006 compared to the 2005 figure.
