Abstract The scheduling and monitoring of highway and other transportation projects are necessary if transportation managers are to use their agency's resources effectively. The report provides the transportation agency manager with a general idea of how scheduling and monitoring can increase agency effectiveness. Project scheduling and monitoring procedures used by the States of Florida, Iowa, and Utah are described. Specific techniques discussed include the Program Review and Evaluation Technique (PERT), the Critical Path Method (CPM), and the Work Progress Diagram (WPD).
