Yuma, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma, Ariz. Sector apprehended six individuals and seized four bundles of marijuana weighing 190 pounds Monday.

The agents, assigned to the Wellton Border Patrol station were conducting patrol operations at Yuma Sector’s Desert Camp Grip, a forward operating location about 75 miles east of Yuma. They tracked six individuals who illegally entered the U.S. and apprehended the group about 10 miles north of the International Border. Members of the group were carrying the drugs worth an estimated $153,000.

The individuals were transported to the Wellton Border Patrol station for processing. They and the narcotics were later turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The seizure marks the third pot bust since Friday when agents seized 750 pounds worth $600,000 along the Colorado River near Yuma.

“Our agents are working extremely hard, patrolling the more remote regions in our area of operations, and their efforts are paying off,” said Yuma Sector’s acting Chief Patrol Agent Jeff Calhoon. “Our message to the smuggling organizations is clear – we’re out there in force and we’re looking for you. If you attempt to smuggle any type of contraband through the Yuma Sector we’re going to catch you.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
