Overview

The mission of the Institute for Scientific Computing Research (ISCR) is to anticipate, innovate and deliver state-of-the-art, grand challenge scientific simulations in support of lab missions. The ISCR engages Programs and Directorates across the laboratory in collaboration with exceptional faculty and students on singular projects that seek to re-define for the world what is computationally possible.

Currently, the ISCR working in collaboration with scientists from across the lab on the SI "The Micro-physics of Burning, Hot, Dense Radiative Plasmas" to develop a detailed microphysical understanding of the  properties of hot dense radiative plasmas by building a validated, state-of-the-art N-body simulation capability.

As part of this mission, the ISCR administers the Computing Grand Challenge Program (CGC) for the laboratory, enabling access to some of the world's most capable open computing resources and broadening the community of HPC practitioners.

The ISCR sponsors the  Masterworks Lecture series, continuing the tradition begain by the ASC Institute for Terascale Simulation (ITS)  Lecture Series began over six years ago. The Masterworks Lecture Series enriches the intellectual atmosphere of LLNL's large simulation community through the visits of leaders from diverse areas of computation that facilitate simulation
