Two Days of Events & Activities to Promote Ties, Showcase U.S. Society, Culture

JAIPUR - An "American Road Show" will be held in Jaipur September 20-21, 2006, to create increased awareness about the United States. The two-day "celebration of America" has been organized by the American Center, New Delhi (near Connaught Place), to promote people-to-people dialogue and friendship, connect with students and youth, showcase U.S. society and culture, highlight growing Indo-U.S. relations and create awareness of U.S. mission programs in India.
 
 The Road Show will have a wide range of educational and cultural activities, including discussions on education in the U.S. with the city's youth, interaction with business and social leaders, film screenings, paper shows and cultural performances.

At Hotel Mansingh, the U.S. Educational Foundation in India (USEFI), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), SPAN magazine and the American Center Library will have information booths open to the public from 10a.m. to 6p.m. on both days. The hotel will also serve as the venue for documentary film screenings, videos on higher education in the U.S., poster shows, quizzes on the U.S. and presentations by members of the American Center staff.

Featured presentations will include "Study in the U.S.A.," "American Center Library Services," "Searching the Internet," and an educational street-play on the prevention of childhood diarrhea presented by USAID and ICICI Bank. 

Theater and musical events spread over two days will offer glimpses into U.S. culture. American singer Christine Matovich will give opera performances at different venues and the Chandigarh based Abhinet Theater group will present American dramatist Arthur Miller's play "The Price."

An English language expert from the American Center will conduct an English language teacher training workshop at the Directorate of Collegiate Education.  Other presentations and discussions will include "US-India Relations: The Opportunities Ahead", "Indo-U.S. Business Linkages," and "Improved Financial and Fiscal Management."
