Border Patrol, CBP Air Ops Assist Local Authorities in Locating Subject

Havre, Mont. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assisted local law enforcements in locating a young male believed to be potentially dangerous to himself near Sweetgrass Hills, Mont., Dec. 4.

About 2 p.m. agents assigned to the Sweetgrass station, were flagged down by a local resident requesting assistance to locate a young male believed to be armed with a hunting rifle and potentially dangerous to himself.

The reporting party provided a detailed description of the vehicle and subject in question to the Border Patrol agents. Border Patrol agents immediately notified Toole County Sheriff's Office and relayed the information. Toole County Sheriff's Office requested the Border Patrol’s assistance in searching for the subject.

The CBP Montana Air Branch was also contacted and responded to assist in the search.

At 2:30 p.m. the Border Patrol located and stopped the vehicle with the described subject driving westbound on Coal Mine road.

Although the hunting rifle described by the reporting party was located behind the seat in the vehicle, no attempt was made to use it. In addition, Border Patrol agents determined that the gun was not loaded.

The subject, the weapon, and the vehicle were safeguarded without incident until the Toole County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene.

Toole County Sheriff's Office took custody of the vehicle, the weapon, and the young male.
