Washington, D.C. – The following is a statement from Commissioner Robert C. Bonner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in response to the Second Stage Review announcement made today by Secretary Michael Chertoff, Department of Homeland Security.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) protects America and our citizens. There is no greater mission. I applaud and fully support Secretary Chertoff’s bold, new agenda to ensure that the Department’s people, policies, and resources are focused and aligned to keep America safe and secure.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency within DHS secures America’s borders. I believe that the Secretary’s announcement today will strengthen CBP in our priority mission to keep terrorists and their weapons out of the United States. The Secretary’s reorganization and vision streamlines the Department in a way that will lead to greater efficiency and effectiveness. I look forward to working with the Secretary to fulfill his vision and achieve security for the American people.”
