Abstract |
Objectives of the described workshop were to broaden the perspectives of participants to include industry business issues as well as technical issues; to identify and rank issues pipelines face today and those the industry must prepare to address in the future; to develop a common understanding of issues, risks, and priorities; to discuss possible technologies; to guide industry research organizations; and to define the extent of research needed by the industry. The break-out session covered the following seven subjects: opportunities to enhance pipeline operations through information technology; next generation pipelines; maintaining pipeline integrity; facing a 'no-risk' society; controlling environmental costs; accuracy of gas measurements; and gas compression today and tomorrow. The report consists of a substantive textual introduction with workshop materials presented as an appendix which includes presentation visuals, papers, tables and illustrations, and a background report prepared before the workshop. |
