Abstract The result of this initial phase of a two-phase equipment performance evaluation demonstrated the capabilities of DYNAPAD(trademark)'s equipment to backfill a cross-country pipeline construction ditch with spoil material graded such that the finest gradation of material is placed under, around and over the pipe; a layer of geotextile fabric is placed on the top surface of the finest material; three subsequent layers, in succession, from smaller to larger sized stone/rock, are then placed over the geotextile fabric in a manner that reduces coating damage. A second phase of this project will evaluate the long term performance of the placed backfill to prevent the migration of rocks of significant size to damage the coating.
