Entry bubble Government Grants

By: Joanne | April 01, 2008 | Category: Money

Hey! Did you hear that the government gives away billions of dollars so people can pay off their credit card bills, quit their jobs and go on vacation?  April fool!

Are we really that gullible? Sure we’d all like it to be true—who doesn’t want some easy money? But before you shell out some of your hard earned money to learn how to get a government grant, or even worse, get caught up in a scam, I want you to know that the government does give lots of money away, but most government grants go to state and local governments or nonprofit organizations that in turn use the money to administer community programs.

If you or someone you know is in need, the government has loads of assistance programs that might help - they’re just not often referred to as “grants.” There are programs to help with heating bills or starting a business or health insurance for children and much more. If you’re an organization seeking a grant you should check out grants.gov, your official source where you can find and apply for a grant from the federal government.

The government does not give away free money? How can this be? Are they not giving away money as a stimulus package after you file your taxes?

All kidding aside. Thank you for writing this. It is sad that so many people need to hear this message.

Well said Thomas, If this will happen, then nobody will work and earn... they will wait for the Govt to help them financially...

And don't believe those blasted infomercials about how Joe Schmoe can help you get all that free government money--if you buy his handy guide for $49.95. Would you really take important financial advice of a guy who dresses like the Riddler?!

I, agree the guy your are refering to is named Mathew Lesko, and his book is for sale in book stores ,but I think he is a fraud just like all the other late night infomecials . I belive the one about how to start your own online e-bay based business is also a fake. If their business is so sucessful why would they want to even sell you their secrets for sucess. As the latin phrase says"cavet emptor" let the buyer beware, or as W.C. Fields put it there's a sucker born every minute and the other classic a fool and his money are quickly parted.
