Minutes of the ICD meeting at UTA (with FNAL and LT by phone) thursday 22-Jan-198 1:30pm Send corrections to Elizabeth Gallas ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ANNOUNCEMENTS ********************************************************* ICD FULL PROTOTYPE WORKING MEETING: We will meet at UTA Feb 23-25 (monday-wednesday) at UTA. Elizabeth, Lee and other LT people will come to UTA in person. Purpose is to get the full prototype running. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY 29-JAN-1998. Issues leftover from this week's meeting are: ANDY check with Bicron on expected production/delivery lag ELIZ check on solenoid test plans check with dean on readout electronics for solenoid test check on space available for fiber cable standoff LEE send EG pmt base daughtercard what is the new motherboard size?, should pass around design for group/dean inspection. KAUSHIK call ann arbor elect (derek sent phone number) to release base card drawings to LT send run I base test QA procedures and a few examples of tests to Lee JIA LI make dxf file available to Kotcher MARK check Camac controller card order VICTOR how many fiber connectors will be needed of each type (including at least 20% spares) to order from DDK? PAUL full prototype could include light distribution systems for laser and/or led system. status any spare blue led's (lee needs some) ? VICTOR/PAUL integration of the calibration fibers in the backplane for the full prototype test ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MINUTES FROM THE MEETING ********************************************** ELIZABETH sent materials needed for wrapping scintillator tiles to UTA including: 1. a partial roll of Tyvek. It is hard to say how much Tyvek is on the roll, but it may be enough for production if we use it sparingly. 2. I also got a few feet (6?) of EMI paper which is a thick paper which is jet black on one side and silvered on the other. I got this from Ken Del Signore - Central PreShower is using it as the final wrap for light tightness with the silvered side on the outside. They claim it is very good. - I think it is difficult to buy a small quantity of either Tyvek or EMI, but if we like it, we should get more if we need it. CPS just bought another roll of EMI but they are almost finished with production, so I see an opportunity here EG talked to John Najdzion - FNAL mechanical technician - who has worked on the method of freezing fibers in bundles to polish them. No documentation has been produced to date so EG will write document to communicate ideas on how to polish fibers. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- KATHLEEN/LEE LT is making progress on the fiber cable transmission testing. A CCD camera is being used which is very sensitive to light loss. Results are expected to be good to the 10% level. They are using green leds. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LEE The fanouts (hv,lv) will be about the same dimensions as the underside of the crate. Lee should send a paper copy with dimensions to E who can bring to lab8 for evaluation of feasibility (to be routed on machine there). Boards may also be etched by ray yarema's group ? The motherboard design has been updated to accommodate changes in operation of the preamps which previously used only pins on one side but now use both pins (preamps feature 2 rows of 13 pins for mechanical stability). The change involves running traces to connect adjacent pins. Lee will pass around latest design for group/dean inspection. Lee will send PMT base daughtercard to to E for Dean to look at. PMT base test stand - voltages match up between old and new design at a level closer than previously reported. LT is working up QA test procedure to check each base. The current test is plagued with pickup of local radio stations. In situ, the bases should be grounded to the cryostat and will be enclosed in the crate for sheilding. The test setup should be put a in metal box connected to ground. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- JIA LI For the full prototype test, the full size iron block and the 3 drawer prototype crate will be used. For the solenoid test, UTA and LT will have a little more time to put the full size crate and new dimensioned drawers together, respectively. One of the iron blocks is expected to be delivered week of 27-jan-98. Jia will buy paint locally and paint the block for rust prevention. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- KAUSHIK Minh plotted results from the run 1 box test results but they are not in the final form yet. Next plots should be as function of delta time between tests. Results show gain is 30% low where 15% is expected and 15% is unaccounted for. As of 27-JAN, Minh is still working on the plots. He stopped by yesterday and told Kaushik that it will take him another week to finish the report. Obiora is also making other plots - similar to the ones Mark made earlier. That will also take a few weeks. Who should work on PMT aging studies? Despite the need to start tests up soon, due to lack of manpower, we will till prototype and solenoid test are done. Progress continues on the PMT tester. current work is on computer software. All components are in hand but putting together will take about a month. Need to collect 12 pmts for full prototype test. To choose which tubes, look at box testing results. Kaushik will try to have PMT tester run on these tubes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MARK/VICTOR Module test stand status Still reading out 3 channels and working out the bugs. Mark will attend meeting next week for full report. To complete impedance matching for electronics in full prototype test, Someone needs to check the input impedance of EG&G AD811 ADC model number EDH11. The gain of the Run I CR test stand is 35 (compared to the ADC/BLS system). We expect 2-3mv (maximum 6) per cosmic ray and 1.5 minimum mv/count due to noise. The current gain is a factor of 35 from adc/bls system. We need at least 30-40 adc counts to see signal over noise but this may be difficult. Kaushik says 60-70 is really the minimum viable. Currently average ADC counts in the CR stand is around 100 counts. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
