Walhalla, North Dakota - On February 24, 2004, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol agents assigned to the Grand Forks Border Patrol Sector apprehended two East Indians who were wanted in Canada for attempted murder. At the time of the arrest, the suspects had entered illegally into the United States and without any identification or immigration documents.

That evening, an off-duty agent watching Canadian television, saw a "Crime Stopper" news alert that the Winnipeg Police Department were searching for two East Indian suspects in connection with an attempted murder case. The two suspects were wanted for restraining and torturing a man in British Columbia, Canada. The two suspects allegedly doused the victim with gasoline and lit him on fire. The victim sustained burns on 80% of his body. The incident is suspected to be drug related.

The agent contacted the Pembina Border Patrol Station to confirm the identification of the two suspects. Further investigation confirmed the identity of the two suspects identified as Chahal Singh Ranjeet and Kuldeep Singh Dillon.

Law Enforcement agencies on the Canadian Border have been notified of the arrest and extradition proceedings are being coordinated.

"Canadian Law Enforcement and Border Patrol agents work hand in hand to apprehend criminals on both sides of the border on a daily basis," said Chief Patrol Agent Glen Schroeder. "We encourage the community to call the Border Patrol if they hear or see any suspicious activity."

The Grand Forks Border Patrol's toll free telephone number is 1-800-982-4077.

The Border Patrol is a division of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security, responsible for managing and securing our nation's borders.
