Blaine, Wash. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a Surrey, British Columbia man on July 10 who was wanted in Clark County, Nev., for four counts of drawing and passing a check without sufficient funds and with the intent to defraud.

Officers arrested Patrick Kim, 49, when a name check revealed that he was the subject of a National Criminal Information Center felony warrant. However, due to the uncertainty created by contradicting information and claims, Kim’s ten fingerprints were electronically recorded and digitally compared in the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System to confirm his identity. IAFIS is a computerized communication data base designed to share fingerprint information among federal law enforcement agencies.

“We remain vigilant and committed to protecting the American people at our nation’s borders,” said Assistant Port Director Lynn Gardner. “The ability to perform our mission through the use of enhanced enforcement tools greatly contributes to our success in this endeavor.”

After the outstanding warrant for arrest was verified with Clark County officials and Kim’s identity was confirmed, he was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for transportation to jail at the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and to await extradition back to Nevada.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
