Range Scheduling Meeting
RMMO Monthly Scheduling Meeting (MSM) is held on the first Tuesday of each month in the main conference room on the second floor of Building E106. At the MSM, all Range Project Managers and the leads of operational and logistical support areas review launch and construction schedules for all Wallops and remote projects. The meeting is chaired by the Test Director and serves as a coordination meeting for upcoming missions.
The Range and Mission Management Office has teamed up with the Air Force Research Lab to install a new state of the art Digital IonoSonde System (DISS) at the Wallops Flight Facility. The new DISS is an open architecture system based on the latest dynasonde designs and capabilities. The precision of the system will be more than 50 times that of the current system. Its Geophysical capabilities will include detection and measurement of electron density profiles, vector velocities for electric fields and neutral winds, Quantitative Spread-F phenomena, and mesospheric winds. The system will be comprised of a 100 meter cross array receiver and a transmit antenna measuring approximately 125m on each side. The transmit antenna will be mounted on steel towers approximately 45m tall. The DISS will be utilized by scientists who use Sounding Rockets to study irregularities in the Ionosphere for military and scientific purposes. Dave Moltedo, of Code 840, is leading the implementation of the new DISS which is expected to lead to additional NASA, NSF, and DoD utilization of the Wallops Launch Range.
