  • Seventy-six percent of all persons arrested in the Nation’s cities during 2006 were male.
  • Males comprised 81.9 percent of persons arrested for violent crime and 67.6 percent of those arrested for property crime.
  • Males were most frequently arrested for drug abuse violations (864,114) and other (simple) assaults (543,731).
  • In the Nation’s cities, females were most often arrested for larceny-theft offenses (259,138) and for drug abuse violations (197,196).
