Border Patrol Joins Search for Missing Juveniles in Texas

(Tuesday, February 05, 2008)

El Paso, Tex. — The El Paso sector Border Patrol responded yesterday to a call for help in locating two children missing from their home in Horizon City, Tex. Two separate Border Patrol stations dispatched ground search units while the liaison unit worked quickly with the Mexican government to facilitate the search.

On Feb. 4, the El Paso County sheriff’s office contacted the El Paso sector Border Patrol for their assistance in responding to a missing persons alert. The El Paso County sheriff’s office asked for their assistance in locating two siblings, a 9-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother, who had been reported missing by their parents. The Ysleta and Fabens Border Patrol stations responded to the request and deployed agents to the Horizon City desert area and initiated an extensive search.

Later in the day, the El Paso Sector International Liaison Unit (ILU) received a call from the Secretaria de Seguridad Publica (Cd. Juarez Municipal Police) and advised the ILU that the children had been located in Cd. Juarez. The children were being held at the Delicias District police station and were in good health and spirits.

Members of the ILU responded to the Paso Del Norte (PDN) port of entry, and the children’s parents were contacted. A short time later, the family was re-united and transported back to Horizon City, Tex.

These instances are indicative of the working relationship that exists between the U.S. Border Patrol as well as other law enforcement agencies from the United States and our law enforcement counterparts in Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
