Miami - Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine agents intercepted 30 migrants and one suspected smuggler on Saturday afternoon during the busy Memorial Day weekend.

CBP marine interdiction agents stopped the motor vessel “High on the Hog,” pursuant to an ongoing investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents, as it headed up the Miami River near the 12th Avenue Bridge.

CBP marine interdiction agents boarded the motor vessel “High on the Hog” as it cruised up the Miami River and found two men on deck and discovered 30 migrants below deck. The migrants consisted of 26 male Jamaican nationals, two female Jamaican nationals, two male Dominican Republic nationals and the one suspected smuggler, a Cuban national, currently paroled into the U.S.

A second suspected smuggler jumped overboard and evaded apprehension. Seventeen of the Jamaicans had been previously deported as criminal aliens.

The migrants were taken into custody and processed by CBP Field Operations at the Port of Miami while the suspected smuggler was turned over to ICE agents for questioning. No injuries were incurred during the event. The motor vessel, a 42-foot Sea Ray, was seized by CBP.
