Title CASUALTIES: ILU STATISTICS CONFIRM GRIM TRENDS FOR UNDERWRITERS
Accession No 00661337
Journal Title Fairplay information Vol. 311 No. No.5580
Publication Date   19901004
Description 1 p.
Abstract It is told how the 1989 loss figures compiled for the International Union of Marine Underwriters contained both good news and bad. The good news was that the number of total losses was only slightly higher than the previous year--156, compared to 147. The bad news was that the cost of those 156 total losses was $850 million, compared with $750 million for almost twice the number of ships lost in the single worst underwriting year of 1979. Two charts that are included show the age of ships at time of loss, 1985-1989, and the causes of losses, for the same time period, by types of ships involved.
