Yuma, Ariz. Border Patrol Seizes Drugs, Gun at Checkpoint

contacts for this news releaseYuma, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents assigned to the checkpoint on Interstate 8 apprehended a U.S. citizen possessing drugs and a pistol on Thursday morning.About 4:30 a.m. a K-9 handler assigned to the Interstate 8 Border Patrol checkpoint referred a black Lexus to secondary after his canine alerted to the vehicle. The driver, a 20-year-old male U.S. citizen, was found to be in possession of four grams of marijuana, .3 grams of cocaine, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia and a .22 caliber pistol.The man has been charged with three counts of possession and misconduct involving a firearm, all felonies. The subject has been turned over to the Yuma County sheriff’s office.U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of the nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
