More on Aramark
A few years ago we had a really great cafeteria which cost the Lab $1 million
per year so [the Lab] decided to outsource it promising us better food for
less money. I questioned whether that would be the case or not at the time,
and sure
enough the quality of food at the cafeteria has declined over time as has the
number of employees who eat there. Who knows if the Laboratory has saved
anything on the cafeteria, but it has become more difficult for employees to
get a quick,
healthy meal. Consider this next time someone suggests outsourcing as a solution
to a problem. In addition GAO studies show that, in general, outsourcing does
not save the government money.
