Satellite Image Map of Pakistan
-72 mosaic Landsat satellite scenes have been put together to create this satellite image map of Pakistan. The satellite scenes were first used to provide base maps for the compilation of geologic and general terrain data in support of the Coal Resource Exploration and Assessment Program (COALREAP). Originally the image maps were limited to internal government use, but subsequent requests from the public for the release of the geo-corrected image maps and their digital data led to the publication of these maps through a USGS grant. These maps are excellent for examining such geologic and geomorphic features such as the bending of the crust from the northerly movement of the Indian subcontinent.  Map scale is 1:2,000,000 and measures 40"x37.5".

Central United States Earthquakes Map
-
-This map displays earthquakes that have occurred in the central United States during the time period 1974 - 1991. The epicenters are shown on a map base obtained from Landsat satellite imagery of the New Madrid seismic zone and surroundings. The epicenter symbol sizes are scaled into four magnitude categories: magnitudes 1.5 - 2.0, magnitudes 2.0 - 3.0, magnitudes 3.0 - 4.0, and magnitudes greater than 4.0. Use this map to teach and learn about the frequency and potential damage of Central Region earthquakes versus earthquakes on the west coast or in other regions.  Research and discuss the 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes.  Map scale is 1:1,000,000 and measures 25.75"x32".

Thumbnail of Satellite Image Map of Denver Colorado and link to larger PDF version

Denver, Colorado Satellite Image Map
-The 489 maps in the 1:250,000-scale series are available for the entire United States. They were originated by the U.S. Army Map Service during the 1950's, but are now maintained by the USGS. This series serves as base maps for aeronautical charts and geologic maps, for geographic reference, and in planning regional land use, transportation, and utility systems. Quadrangles are 1 degree of latitude by 2 degrees of longitude. This Denver map along with several others is unique because on the reverse side is a satellite image covering the same area as the 1:250,000 topographic map. It is therefore excellent for comparing cultural and physical geography to the satellite image.  Map scale is 1:250,000 and measures 32"x22".

South Florida Satellite Image Map
-
-This photograph of South Florida is taken from space and shows a great deal about South Florida's landforms, vegetation and resources. Aerial and satellite images, also known as remotely sensed images, permit accurate mapping of land cover and make landscape features understandable. Transient phenomena, such as seasonal vegetation vigor and contaminant discharges, can be studied by comparing these images acquired at different times. This map is excellent for understanding the fragile and threatened nature of the Everglades from expansion of urban areas and from agriculture.  Map scale is 1:500,000 and measures 16"x44". Big Cypress - Pine Island Florida Satellite Image Map

Big Cypress – Pine Island, Florida Satellite Image Map (SIM-2842) -- Multiple South Florida stakeholders from government, private industry, environmental, and citizen sectors have begun collaborating in an effort to return the Florida Everglades system to its natural state.  This satellite image map of Big Cypress – Piney Island, produced by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Land Characteristics from Remote Sensing Project is a part of that effort.  The primary goal of this project is to provide restoration-critical information regarding past and current characteristics of the Greater Everglades land surface. These satellite image maps increase our understanding of the role that vegetation and other surface features play in removal of surface water, resistance to surface water flow, water quality, habitat condition, and habitat functioning in South Florida.  Map scale is 1:100,000 and the dimensions are 47" x 43".
