Cornish, NH – On Sunday, July 24, 2005, at 2:00 P.M., The Fischer Duo, Cello and Piano, will perform at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, NH. Their music for this concert is an “All Italian Program” with works by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), Gianbattista Deglia Antonii (1660-1698), Giovanni Sgambati (1841-1914), Gian Francesco Malipiero (1882-1973), Giovanni Sollima (b. 1962) and Giuseppe Martucci (1856-1909)

Since 1971, Norman Fischer and Jeanne Kierman have delighted audiences with performances described in The Boston Globe as “boldly imaginative and technically assured,” as well as a “salon-like intimacy and warmth.” Known for its enlightened residency work, in 1996 and 1997 the duo toured South America and South Africa as Artistic Ambassadors for the United States Information Agency, and received the highest ratings for their music. Norman Fischer is one of this country’s most versatile cellists. He first appeared with the acclaimed Concord String Quartet, and later joined the Concord Trio and Ensemble Pierrot. A devoted teacher and mentor to younger players, Mr. Fischer taught at Dartmouth College and the Oberlin Conservatory, and is now Professor of Violoncello at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Since 1985 he has taught at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts and currently is Coordinator of Chamber Music and Strings.

Jeanne Kierman is a graduate of Oberlin College, the Dalcroze School, and the New England Conservatory. She is equally adroit as a collaborator with voice or instrument and is in great demand as a recital partner. For the last nine summers she has shared her chamber music expertise with students at the Greenwood Music Camp. Formerly on the faculties of Dartmouth College and Oberlin Conservatory, Ms. Kierman is currently an Artist Teacher at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. This is the fourth of seven concerts in the 2005 Saint-Gaudens Summer Concert Series sponsored annually by the Trustees of the Saint-Gaudens Memorial. The series continues through August 14, with performances in the Little Studio each Sunday at 2:00 P.M. Concerts are included with paid admission to the site. For more information about the Trustees of the Saint-Gaudens Memorial and for information about joining the Friends of the Saint-Gaudens Memorial please visit their website: www.sgnhs.org.

Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site is located off NH Route 12A, just north of the Cornish-Windsor covered bridge. The park is open daily through October 31, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Admission to the site is $5.00 per person; children 16 and under are admitted free of charge. As a National Fee Area, the National Park Pass and the Golden Passports are honored. An annual park pass is also available for $25 and is a very economical way for a family to enjoy repeat visits to the site – including the concerts.
