May 6, 2002 CONGRESSMAN TANNER CELEBRATES READINGCongressman John Tanner is celebrating May as "Get Caught Reading Month" by spending some time reading, just for fun. He is also encouraging others to do the same. "As parents, teachers and librarians, we all need to encourage our children to read and let them know just how important it is and how much fun it can be," Tanner said. Congressman Tanner was "caught reading" with Clifford the Big Red Dog on Capitol Hill recently, for two posters that are available for download below. Schools and libraries are encouraged to display the posters to help promote literacy. The posters also help celebrate the 2nd National Book Festival, which will take place Sept. 21. "This September, children will be going back to school, and the National Book Festival is a great reminder of how important reading is, for people of all ages, but especially for children," Tanner said. Tanner, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, represents Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District. -30-
