How to Set Up Internet Explorer to Use Acrobat Reader

Internet Explorer is able to automatically launch "helper programs" when you click on certain types of files. For this Comptroller site, Adobe Acrobat files have been included to present the DoD Financial Management Regulations. In order to properly view the files, Internet Explorer must be configured to launch the Acrobat Reader.

If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free copy can be downloaded from Adobe. Instructions for downloading are included at the Adobe site.

Installing Acrobat Reader for Internet Explorer on PCs

  1. Download Acrobat Reader Software.
  2. Double click the file that you just downloaded to start the installation process.
  3. Click the Next buttons to install the software with default settings.
  4. Click the Finish button when the Acrobat reader setup is complete.

The default installation settings should automatically install the components that allow Internet Explorer to display PDF files. When you click on the chapters listed for each regulation, the Acrobat Reader should automatically start and open the appropriate document file.
