Card Reader and Punch plus Oldest Tape Drives to be Discontinued

The demand for card punching and reading service has diminished to a level where usage no longer supports the required overhead. Consequently, as part of the DCRT streamlining program, some equipment and corresponding services will be discontinued on December 31, 1995.

The equipment to be discontinued includes the IBM 3505 Card Reader, the IBM 3525 Card Punch, the IBM 2403, and the IBM 3420 (7 and 9 track) tape drives. Because of new technology, these units are no longer manufactured, and parts and maintenance are difficult to obtain. (The 9-track IBM 3422 tape drives which read and write at 6250/1600 will remain.)
