Newark, N.J. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the arrests of a United States citizen wanted in Bergen County for sex assault and a legal permanent resident for failure to appear on a prior DUI charge in Northampton, Pa.

Yesterday, CBP officers at Newark Liberty International Airport received information that Helman Correa, a 44-year-old United States citizen, was returning from Bogota, Colombia and was the subject of an active warrant issued by the Bergen County prosecutor’s office for sexual assault. CBP officers performed additional record checks and verified that Mr. Correa is also a registered sexual offender. CBP officers verified the validity of the warrant, conducted the arrest, and then turned over to the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for prosecution.

CBP officers at Newark also received information that Rouman Tranhanov, a legal permanent resident from Bulgaria, was returning to the U.S. on a flight from Munich, Germany and was the subject of a warrant issued by Northampton County Sheriff's Office for failure to appear for a DUI hearing. CBP officers initiated the arrest and the Port Authority Police took custody of Tranhanov for extradition to Pennsylvania. Tranhanov was admitted as a legal permanent resident since an arrest for DUI is not grounds for removal.

"These arrests demonstrate CBP’s commitment to working with local law enforcement agencies to apprehend wanted criminals at our ports of entry," said Robert E. Perez, CBP director of field operations in New York.
