General Announcement

The three day symposium on Non-Equilibrium Many Body Physics is scheduled to open on September 23, 1997, a day after the inaugural celebration of the RIKEN BNL Research Center, at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This symposium will focus on frontier problems in non-equilibrium many body physics.

The following are the confirmed speakers and the subject of their talks:

Gordon A. Baym University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Recent developments in Bose-Einstein condensation
Jean-Paul Blaizot Saclay Quasiparticles and Infrared Physics in QED and QCD Plasmas
Fred Cooper Los Alamos Dileptons at RHIC from the nonequilibrium chiral phase transition: A quantum field theory approach .
Pawel Daniel Danielewicz Michigan State University Nonequilibrium Quantum Kinetics
Klaus Kinder-Geiger Brookhaven National Laboratory QCD Parton Cascade Dynamics
Gabor J. Kalman Boston College Strongly Coupled Coulomb Systems
Dmitri Kharzeev Riken BNL Research Center The Charm of Nuclear Physics
Kazuo Kitahara Tokyo Institute of Technology Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics
Dimitri Kusnezov Yale University Open Questions in Non-Equilibrium Physics
T. D. Lee Columbia Opening Remarks and Non-Compact Lattice
Larry Dean McLerran University of Minnesota Classical Yang Mills dynamics
Berndt Muller Duke Color Chaos
Yang Pang Columbia University / BNL Covariant Transport Theories
Rob Pisarski Brookhaven National Laboratory Non-Abelian Debye Screening and the "Tsunami Wave" Problem
Dirk H. Rischke Riken BNL Research Center Instabilities and inhomogeneities in the early stage of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions
Edward Shuryak SUNY-Stony Brook The QCD phase transitions: from mechanism to observables
Paul Willis Terry University of Wisconsin Turbulent Plasmas
Frank Wilczek Institute for Advanced Study Color Superconductivity

A major part of the theoretical activity at the RIKEN/BNL Center will be the study of the full spectrum of strong interaction physics based on QCD, including the physics of confinement and chiral symmetry breaking, the parton structure of hadrons and nuclei, and the phenomenology of ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions related to the upcoming experiments at RHIC in a few years. The opportunities and challenges of nuclear and particle physics in this area naturally involve aspects of the many body problem common to many other fields. The aim of this symposium is to find common theoretical threads especially in the area of non-equilibrium phenomena and modern transport theories. The program will consist of invited talks on a wide spectrum of topics from the fields of solid state, plasma, astrophysics, cosmology, and chemistry in addition to nuclear and particle physics.
