A major part of the theoretical activity at the RIKEN/BNL Center will be the study of the full spectrum of strong interaction physics based on QCD, including the physics of confinement and chiral symmetry breaking, the parton structure of hadrons and nuclei, and the phenomenology of ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions related to the upcoming experiments at RHIC in a few years. The opportunities and challenges of nuclear and particle physics in this area naturally involve aspects of the many body problem common to many other fields. The aim of this symposium is to find common theoretical threads especially in the area of non-equilibrium phenomena and modern transport theories. The program will consist of invited talks on a wide spectrum of topics from the fields of solid state, plasma, astrophysics, cosmology, and chemistry in addition to nuclear and particle physics.

Travel Information
Please note that there is no public transportation available from local hotels. The on-site apartment area is approximately a 20-30 minute walk from Berkner Hall. The dorms are approximately a 5-10 minute walk away. If you plan to stay in a hotel, or cannot walk to and from the apartment area, we advise you to rent a car at the airport or request dormitory accommodations. The Brookhaven cafeteria (located in Berkner Hall) is open for breakfast and lunch and the Brookhaven Center is open for simple meals in the evening. Both are within a 5-10 minute walk from the dorms. If you are arriving via (rental) car from one of the New York airports, and need a BNL approach map, please contact us via e-mail at rikenbnl@bnl.gov and we will mail one out to you. NOTE: NEWARK AIRPORT is in New Jersey and it is very inconvenient to get here from there! And, extremely costly! Limousine services available from JFK and LaGuardia airports to the Brookhaven area are listed below. A reservation is suggested. If you would like us to make a reservation for you, please include which airport, your flight number and time of arrival on the form enclosed. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
