Aguadilla, PR – En la noche del 3 de julio de 2006, una aeronave de vigilancia marítima DHC-8 de la Division de CBP Caribbean Air and Marine en Puerto Rico, detectó una embarcación sospechosa que navegaba en dirección este hacia la isla de la Mona, Puerto Rico. La tripulación del DHC-8 mantuvo vigilancia sobre la embarcación y le comunicó la localización a dos embarcaciones de CBP Marine, que pudieron así interceptarla rápidamente. De primera intención, la embarcación sospechosa dificultó la detención haciendo movimientos evasivos. Luego de una persecución agresiva, las embarcaciones del CBP lograron detener la embarcación y todos sus ocupantes. A bordo de la embarcación había un total de 12 personas de nacionalidad cubana y 2 de nacionalidad dominicana. Todos los detenidos fueron puestos bajo custodia de la Guardia Costanera de los Estados Unidos. Actualmente el caso está siendo investigado por la Oficina de Inmigración y Aduana (Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE)
