What's happening with CMO?

Customs is modernizing its information technology and operational processes to provide greater security to America’s borders and manage the ever-increasing volume of trade. As the first step, in early 2001, Customs embarked on a multi-year effort to modernize commercial processing with the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). The Customs Modernization Office (CMO) was formed to head the modernization initiative which will cover the span of Customs mission areas - trade, enforcement, and administration.

The CMO recently conducted a communications questionnaire in which Customs employees indicated what they want to know about modernization. Based on the survey feedback, a feature article on the modernization effort will appear in the August 2002 issue of U.S. Customs Today. In addition to updates on the modernization initiative, the regular feature will give readers an in-depth look at the benefits of modernization. Stay tuned for more from the CMO.
