Editor's Page Volume 11, Number 1
(09/01/2001)This volume of the Customs Laboratory Bulletin (CLB) contains articles that represent areas of Customs work requiring high tech, analytical, scientific work. Employees of Laboratories and Scientific Services enthusiastically work on those projects using state-of-the art scientific equipment. The articles on ceramic ware and pollen were shortened because of the sensitive, law enforcement nature of the work. The other two articles are interesting from a technical standpoint.I hope you will find this volume of the CLB useful. You have probably noticed that we do publish short, topical, Customs-related articles in the CLB. We would welcome, for example, articles on the usage of science and technology for increasing security at Customs ports of entry. We would also welcome interesting, topical articles from our overseas readers for publication in our CLB. For example, a question has been asked by one of our overseas readers about the safe handling by Customs employees of imported preserved skins, hunting trophies and other similar taxidermy. It would be interesting to find out how different Customs organizations around the world address that issue. You may contact me at the following address:Mr. Donald Cousins Editor, Customs Laboratory Bulletin U.S. Customs Service Laboratories and Scientific Services 1300 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W.
