Data Exchange from Allen Bradley PLC Based Systems to EPICS

The Advanced Photon Source uses Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in a number of applications including equipment protection and personnel safety systems. It is necessary to report the operating status of these systems to the main control system, designed using the EPICS toolkit. This paper discusses the method used at the APS to transfer data from a PLC based sub-system to the EPICS based control system.
