Purpose of study: to know the STD's rate in CFSW's of A'BAD to decide the policy for control of STD's, HIV/AIDS. Materials and METHODS: Study was conducted from April-1998 to August-2001, 1068 CFSW's were mobilized to the clinic. Consent was taken, Counseling was done, Privacy and confidentiality was maintained, Condom usage was emphasized history was taken l CFSW's were examined as per sydromic approach advised by NACO. Treatment was offered to STD +ve patients, they were followed up for six months, abstinance from sex was advised till the cure of disease. Investigations done were Wet mount, Gram's stain, V.D.R.L., H.I.V. & test Total CFSW's examined: 1068 CFSW's without any STD-616/1068(58%) CFSW's with STD's-452/1068(42%) Following were the different STD's STD's with Ulceration syndrome Syphilis (secondary): 4/1068(0.3) Syphilis (tertiary): 0 Chancroid:3(0.2%) Syphilis (primary): 20/1068 (1.9%) Gonorrhea:58/1068(5.8) Trichomoniasis:192/1068(18%) Candidiosis:119/1068(11%) Herpesgenitalis:27/1068(2.5%) P.I.D.: 33/1068(3%) Observations: Discharge diseases were high, Initial condom usage fter intervention, STD's & HIV/AIDS awareness was low at initial phase of study which increased Syndromic approach works well but excat aetiological treatment is difficult to offer by this approach, CONCLUSION: We conclude that very high rate of STD's in this risk group is likely to spread STD's & HIV in population in near future. Innovative procedure for quick, effective diagnosis of STD's and cost effective treatment is needed for spot treatment of STD's in this group and there by reducing spread of HIV.
