Current Entry Level Professional/Administrative Positions
CBP offers programs for students that have recently graduated from college or individuals with limited analytical experience in a related field.

  • Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP) and;
  • Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF)

Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP)

The FCIP is a two-year program designed to recruit, develop, and retain a group of diverse future leaders for CBP’s management functions. The interns will complete a two-year rotational assignment and receive on-the-job training during the rotational assignments as well as formal classroom training. FCIP positions are offered in many components within CBP and are advertised through our careers webpage.

Candidates are typically recruited at the GS-5/7/9 grade levels. Most positions have promotion potential to the GS-12 grade level. Once the two-year training period is completed and all program requirements are met, he/she will be placed in a permanent Federal position.

Presidential Management Fellow (PMF)

CBP employs students throughout the year through the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program. The PMF program is the Federal Government’s premier program for individuals with advanced degrees. After a rigorously competitive screening process that is managed by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), PMF finalists are selected for consideration for Federal positions. PMF finalists are then selected by Federal agencies for fast-track careers in the Federal Government. The PMF program is open to students in their last year of graduate or law school. They are nominated for the program by the Dean or the Department Chair in their educational institution.

If you are interested in becoming a Presidential Management Fellow, you must apply through the Office of Personnel Management. Please review the “How to apply/Program and Application Overview on the OPM website. ( Presidential Management Fellows Program )
