  • The number of persons arrested in the Nation's suburban areas increased 0.9 percent in 2005 from the previous year's figure.
  • The number of persons arrested increased 0.3 percent for violent crime and declined 2.5 percent for property crime.
  • The number of persons in all age groups arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter offenses increased 7.4 percent in 2005 compared with the 2004 figure; the number of adults arrested for this crime rose 6.4 percent, and the number of juveniles (under 18 years of age) arrested for this crime rose 21.4 percent over the same 2-year period.
  • The number of persons in all age groups arrested for drug abuse violations in 2005 increased 4.9 percent; the number of adults arrested for crimes in this category increased 6.1 percent, and arrests of juveniles for these crimes decreased 3.6 percent.
