Ability of the Innogenetics Inno-LIA to distinguish HIV-1, HIV-2 and dually reactive sera.

Granade TC, Phillips SK, George JR; American Society for Microbiology. General Meeting.

Abstr Gen Meet Am Soc Microbiol. 1992; 92: 416 (abstract no. T-47).

Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta, Ga.

A recombinant and peptide based line immunoassay--Innogenetics Inno-LIA (IIL)--was used to differentiate HIV-1, HIV-2, and dually reactive sera. A total of 121 West African sera previously characterized by standard EIA, Western blot, PCR, viral culture and other peptide based assays were further tested by the IIL test. Results of the IIL assay were concordant with the other test results for 114 of the 121 specimens (94%). Five of the discordant specimens were dually reactive by IIL but were typed by the other tests (1 HIV-2, 4 HIV-1). IIL failed to detect HIV-1 antibodies in two sera that were dually reactive by other methods. The concordance of the IIL assay with other tests was similar to that observed for other peptide and recombinant based assays.
