GAO, as the investigative arm of Congress, evaluates federal programs, audits federal expenditures, and issues reports on its findings. From the GAO web site, users may search by topic or agency for reports from 1995 to the present.

A subscription based resource containing articles covering the financial, technology, market data dealing with the financial, technological, and marketing aspects of worldwide exploration and production activities. Includes a mix of news, politics, topical features, opinion, personal profiles and market information. Articles from this title are available to patrons onsite at the Library of Congress from April 30, 1999, forward through the online subscription service, Factiva.

Associations

American Gas Association (AGA).

This association represents local energy utility companies that deliver natural gas. Its Stats & Studies section contains: Studies (most are for members only), Non-AGA Studies/Forecasts/Stats, State Profiles, Company Rankings, and other information. The site also provides the table of contents for the association's journal, American Gas, from September 2000 forward, and full text of selected columns from the journal from August 1997 forward.

American Petroleum Institute (API).

API is the primary industry association for the oil and natural gas industry and represents companies involved in all aspects of the industry. The site has a well-organized collection of links as well as an Industry Statistics section that includes many useful publications including: monthly and weekly statistical releases, information imports by country, and reports on environmental and supply/demand.

Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA).

IAPP represents independent oil and natural gas producers. The Reports & Statistics section of the site contains industry statistics on prices, exploration, as well as information crude oil and natural gas, while the Economic Reports section includes information on the overall industry, specific segments, as well as a state of the industry report.

National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA).

NPRA represents U.S. refiners and petrochemical manufacturers. The site includes information on a number of publications from the association which are available by subscription only, including an Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses and various petrochemical statistical series. The association also makes available without charge the text of a few of its publications including the U.S. Refining Capacity Report, from 1999 to the present, based on data supplied by the U.S. Department of Energy on the crude oil capacity of petroleum refiners in the U.S., along with data on the capacities of the principal processing units within refineries.

Energy research firm provides exploration and production data. Produces a variety of databases, including the PI/Dwight's Energy Database which it acquired at the end of 1997.

John S. Herold, Inc.

An independent research firm specializing in the analysis of companies, transactions, and trends. Publishes Global Upstream Performance Review, an annual study of the upstream investment performance for petroleum companies available by subscription only.

ODS-Petrodata Group

Produces daily, weekly, and monthly news and data publications, industry directories, and databases on the offshore drilling fleet and offshore field development projects all available by subscription. Releases free weekly update on U.S. and worldwide rig counts, dayrates, and utilization rates, and other market news.
