Arlington Heights, Ohio — Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Cincinnati port of entry assisted in the discovery of a counterfeit Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) presented by a Ghanaian national at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles facility on Tuesday.

While Cincinnati CBP officers were discussing fraudulent document training with the “Head Investigator” of the Ohio BMV, a Ghanaian national, Joseph Yeboah entered the facility to apply for an Ohio State driver’s license. Yeboah presented his Permanent Resident Card as proof of identity and residence in order to obtain the drivers license. The employee at the facility asked the two CBP officers on-site to look at the card. The CBP officers determined that the Permanent Resident Card presented was counterfeit.

The Arlington Heights Police Department were contacted and immediately arrived on the scene. Mr. Yeboah, who had been living illegally in the United States was arrested and charged with Falsification, Possessing Criminal Tools and Tampering with Records, a third degree felony.

Customs and Border Protection officers are trained in identifying fraudulent documents and on a typical day intercept 84 fraudulent documents presented at ports of entry throughout the United States.

"This is another wonderful example of the great relationships, partnering and communication CBP has developed in working with local, state and federal agencies to provide expertise and help benefit the community," said David Murphy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection director of field operations in Chicago.

Upon completion of State of Ohio criminal proceedings, Immigration and Customs Enforcement will place Mr. Yeboah under removal proceedings.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
