Sterling, Va. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a passenger wanted on homicide charges after the man arrived at Dulles International Airport aboard a flight from El Salvador Sunday night.

Mario Barillas Galeano, 39, is wanted in Harris County, Texas on charges of criminal negligence/homicide and failure to appear in court. He was allegedly involved in a 1994 auto accident that resulted in a fatality. CBP officers met Galeano as he exited his flight and escorted him to CBP offices at the airport to confirm his identity. Once Galeano was confirmed to be the subject of the warrant, CBP officers turned Galeano over to Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority officers who will make arrangements to return him to Texas authorities.

“This is another example of the incredible work CBP officers do daily to ensure we know who is coming into the United States so that we can protect the nation and our citizens,” said Christopher Hess, CBP Port Director at Dulles. “Through close cooperation with the airlines, CBP knows who is coming to the United States well before they step off the plane. Dulles CBP officers recognized this passenger was a wanted person, were waiting for him at the gate and quickly took him into custody.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
