(12/20/2007)171 Pattonwood DriveRochester, NY 14617Phone: (585) 266-2802Fax: (585) 266-5772 HistoryThe Rochester, NY Border Patrol Station (ROC) has existed since October 2004 and was primarily established as a maritime patrol station. This is due to the 54 linear miles of border on Lake Ontario for which ROC is responsible. Since this time due to a reallocation of Marine Assets and manpower issues the focus of the station has changed to transportation check and general patrol activities. The Rochester Border Patrol Station currently consists of seven agents, which includes the Patrol Agent in Charge, one Supervisory Border Patrol Agent, and six Patrol Agents. The Station currently focuses its operations on transportation check duties at the Amtrak train station, Trailways/Greyhound bus depot, and Greater Rochester International Airport. Agents at the Rochester Border Patrol Station also respond to the many calls for assistance from other agencies in the stations AOR. During the summer months, station agents conduct joint marine patrols with members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Environmental Conservation, and the Monroe and Orleans County Sheriffs Offices. Rochester agents also conduct limited marine patrols on station personal watercraft. Area of ResponsibilityRochester Station is responsible for Monroe and Orleans Counties. The AOR is bordered to the west by Niagara County (Niagara Border Patrol Station AOR) and Wayne County to the East (Oswego Border Patrol Station AOR). The northern boundary is the international border (Canada-US), which is located in Lake Ontario approximately 17.5 statute miles from the nearest shoreline (near Point Breeze, Orleans County) in ROC AOR. ROC is responsible for approximately 54 linear miles of border, all of which are in Lake Ontario. The AOR is primarily comprised of the Rochester Metropolitan area (urban and suburban), smaller towns and villages such as Medina (Orleans County) and Brockport (Monroe County) and rural/agrarian areas (primarily Orleans County). The AOR can quickly be summed-up by describing Monroe County as being urban/suburban and Orleans County as being rural. Rochester is uniquely centered within the heart of the Northeast Region, providing an economic bridge to Washington, New York, Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit, Cleveland, Boston, Baltimore and Montreal. Within a 400-mile radius that includes twelve Northeastern states and the two most populous Canadian provinces, Rochester reaches out to more than eighty million people-that is over one-third of the total U.S. population. |
