Dear Tom,

Thanks for the complete information on the state of AFS at BNL,
and what has happened to the PHENIX area in particular.

We have complete CVS logging of every change in the simulation AFS
area (PISA and PISORP), which log is accessible off the WWW from the PHENIX
simulation home page. This shows the last change (by me actually) on
September 10 at 18:24 (CDT). I believe that Jeff Mitchell did some changes
yesterday, and those no longer appear on the log if that is possible. Jeff
can confirm this in any case.

I would think that the operative question is whether the AFS system
at BNL has regained stability, and therefore it is worthwhile to re-do any
commits which were lost and to continue doing new commits? Please give us
advice on this question, to the best of your knowledge. As you probably know
next week is "PHENIX week" at BNL, which might normally produce activity in
the PHENIX AFS area. But we can restrain ourselves as necessary.

Regards,
Charlie Maguire
