Abstract	The IHI man-in-the-loop manoeuvring simulator has been used effectively over the last ten years in the design of ULCC's, establishment of design criteria, evaluation of alternative LNG carrier designs, and in training courses for VLCC ship handling. It is proposed that the simulator should be linked to a CAD system to enhance its future utilisation.
