New Border Patrol Recruitment Spot Breaks on Cable TV

(06/30/2008)
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has a mandate to increase the ranks of the Border Patrol by 6,000 by the end of 2008. There are many milestones to finding and hiring the right talent for this challenging job, which is requiring that CBP recruit in excess of 200,000 applicants by the end of this year to meet its recruiting goal. But a new national ad campaign, breaking June 30, will undoubtedly prove a significant boost to current recruitment efforts.

The campaign, created by the ad agencies Image Media Services, Inc. and JWT INSIDE, a subsidiary of J. Walter Thompson, centers around the theme “Protected by…the U.S. Border Patrol.” The message, which is meant to serve as a new rallying point (or “brand”) for this key operational office within CBP, is meant to signify that the Border Patrol plays a critical role in keeping ordinary Americans safe and protecting our nation’s way of life, because they are on patrol 24/7/365.

“With this ad campaign, we want to showcase our premier agency so that those seeking a career in law enforcement will consider joining the ranks of the U.S. Border Patrol. This ad campaign will help CBP attract the best applicants around the country,” said Joe Abbott, Director of CBP’s National Recruitment Division. The ads are set to air broadly across the country on cable television networks including the History Channel, A & E, Military History, Speed Channel, and Fox Sports.

Also rolling out on June 30 are local radio and newspaper ads as well as a new “fast-track” Web site, which provides testimonials from agents, an interactive map of Border Patrol work locations, recruiting events, and information tailored to veterans and students who may be seeking employment. All together, the various elements of the new campaign offer a call to action for those who want to start their career with Border Patrol right now, and the entire CBP stands ready to welcome and acclimate its new recruits to the ranks.
