POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR/PARTICLE PHYSICS

The Medium Energy Physics Group at the University of New Mexico invites

applications for a term appointment for research with the PHENIX experiment

at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at BNL. Our main physics interest

is in the Spin Physics program at RHIC, with ongoing analyses of di-hadron

correlations in longitudinally polarized proton collisions, and strong

interest in the Drell-Yan program at RHIC. Close collaboration is encouraged

with the RIKEN/BNL Research Center and with Los Alamos National Laboratory,

providing excellent exposure and possible additional resources. Successful

candidates can be stationed at UNM and/or BNL, based upon their research needs.

Extended stays at BNL will be required from time to time. Our group played a

significant role in the development and production of the Muon Arm tracking

subsystem and is currently contributing to the development a new forward

silicon tracker in PHENIX (fVTX). The development and construction of the

fVTX will be a central responsibility of this position. Our group also has

a history of extensive involvement in strangeness nuclear physics and rare

K-decays, and therefore we also have interest in future experiments at J-PARC

in Tokai/Japan. Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. at the time of hire.
