CBP Completes ACE Truck Manifest Deployment in Alaska
Trade Ambassador Spotlight: Jevon Jamieson

(09/26/2007)
Jevon Jamieson, manager of administration and compliance for ABF Freight System, Inc., says he lives by Vince Lombardi’s maxim, “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Jamieson demonstrates his own commitment to group efforts through service to his company, his profession, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) program. Prior to joining the ranks of ABF, an Arkansas-based trucking company, Jamieson served in the U.S. Army as an air traffic controller. He now serves as an ACE Trade Ambassador.

Jamieson applies his knowledge of ACE and draws on his ten years of experience as a less-than-truck-load carrier to assist other carriers and Government agencies with the transition to ACE. Jamieson’s early involvement with ACE allowed him to provide CBP with input on business practices as well as how the industry utilizes Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) data elements. Jamieson’s participation in the development of truck manifest EDI data elements, operational procedures, Web portal design, and procedural issues helped CBP develop and field ACE capabilities for a broad range of users. Most recently, Jamieson participated in the Laredo, Texas, ACE Exchange IV as a trade community panelist.

In addition to his recent appointment as a member of the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee, Jamieson is a member of the Trade Support Network Multi-Modal Manifest and Export committees. Jamieson also serves as the Chair of the American Trucking Association (ATA) Automation Subcommittee, and he is a member of the ATA Immigration and Cross-Border Operations Committee.

Jamieson’s managerial duties include ensuring his company’s compliance with all U.S. standards and regulations for domestic and international freight. Jamieson must understand how programs such as the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Free and Secure Trade (FAST) affect his business. Moreover, keeping abreast of ongoing Government rules and regulation changes is essential. Jamieson believes communication and relationships with brokers, shippers, and CBP have been instrumental to his company’s success and said, “I am always learning, as well as educating our employees, as well as others within the industry and Government.”

When not at the office or traveling as an ACE Trade Ambassador, Jamieson enjoys spending time with his wife of seven years and his two stepsons as well as hunting with his Labrador retriever. Jamieson said, “My motivation for work and life is family, friendships, and fellowship.”
