CBP Officers in Brownsville Seize $217,000 Worth of Dope from Pickup

contacts for this news releaseBrownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge discovered $217,000 in marijuana hidden in a false bed of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup; one U.S. citizen was arrested.On February 5, at 11:33 a.m., at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, CBP officers encountered a blue 1995 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Arnold Campos, a 61-year-old U.S. citizen and resident of Dallas, Texas for a secondary inspection. CBP officers’ inspection of the Chevrolet revealed abnormality to the bed of the Chevrolet. “Brenda,” a narcotic detector dog, further substantiated CBP officers’ suspicions and alerted officers to the odor of narcotics emanating from the Chevrolet. CBP officers’ intensive inspection of the Chevrolet revealed 91 packages with a combined weight of almost 217 pounds of marijuana hidden within the false bed of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup.The marijuana from this seizure has an estimated street value of $217,000. The driver was arrested by CBP officers and turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents who investigated the seizure and will process the driver on federal drug charges.“CBP officers on a daily basis use their training and experience in safeguarding our borders.
