REP. ANDREWS ATTENDS RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
ALICE PAUL CENTENNIAL FOUNDATION

October 21, 2002

Today, I joined with local and state leaders to celebrate the opening of the new Alice Paul Centennial Foundation in Paulsboro. I am pleased to have been a part of this endeavor by working to help secure state and federal funding to complete this $1.1 million renovation project. As a result, the childhood home of suffragist Alice Paul has been transformed into an educational center for women's history for future generations.

In addition to working to teach new generations about the work of the Woman Suffragist Movement, I am working in Congress to ensure that future generations enjoy the benefits of their work. More than 80 years have passed since women won the right to vote but that right has not produced full equality. That is evident when you consider that women still earn 74 cents to every dollar that men earn. To work to alleviate this and other inequalities, I have introduced a resolution to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, which passed into law in 1972, to guarantee a women's rights under the Constitution. It is my hope that the leadership in Congress and the President will recognize the importance of this issue in ensuring that our Nation's mother's, daughters, and sisters receive the same rights as their male counterparts.
