Upgrades to Web Site Launched
(04/04/2008)The next phase of the CBP.gov Web site upgrade is now live and features better display of information on CBP’s major missions of border security, trade and travel as well as agency news and career information. This upgrade also introduces streamlined menu bar and footers, as well as more photos and graphics. “The goal has been to provide a user-friendly, focused site so that visitors can quickly find the information they need,” said Jeffrey Robertson, assistant commissioner for public affairs. “We also will continue to provide general information about the importance and breadth of CBP’s accomplishments.” A new homepage was launched in January. Since then many existing pages have been streamlined and reorganized in preparation for this phase II upgrade. Some users may notice that top navigation buttons they currently are using are no longer provided. Users are encouraged to click on the general button for the information they seek, or to search for it in the upper right of all pages. Note also that “Smart Links” are being provided from many keyword searches to the most appropriate information source (see below). Search also provides a new link to Archived CBP information. In the top of the search page, users are now able to check the box for CBP Archives to search only that information. CBP.gov current information will be a separate search to help elevate current relevant information to the searcher. Other new features include:
- Consolidating import and export under the Trade top button.
- Contacts moved to the footer and continue to appear on every page on the site.
- Ports moved to Field Operations in the mission box on the homepage and will appear on many spotlight pages and as a see also as appropriate. .
- Questions is now a button on the CBP.gov homepage and appears in the footer of every page on the web site.
- Forms is now a button on the CBP.gov homepage and appears in the footer of every page on the Web site.
- Publications moved into the Newsroom feature page and can be linked to from the upper left navigation links.
- Legal moved into the new Trade feature page.
- Contracting moved into the Contacts section in the footer.
- Sitemap moved to the footer of every page on the Web site and provides anchored links to major sections on the Web site to help users quickly access the section sitemap they need.
