History and Area of Responsibility
The Plentywood Station was established a as sub-office in 1924 and existed as such until the early 1930's. There was an Officer In Charge stationed in Scobey along with a clerk and Patrol Agents stationed in most of the small border towns. The complement for Patrol Agents ran about as follows: two in Westby, one in Comertown, one in Dooley, one in Raymond, one in Outlook, two to three in Plentywood, two in Whitetail, two in Scobey, and two in Opheim. Records show that in the fall of 1931 the station at Whitetail was closed with one officer going to Opheim and one to Plentywood.

About 1933 the sub-offices were closed and the stations placed under the Chief Patrol Agent at Havre, Montana. The stations at Westby, Comertown, Dooley, Raymond, Outlook and Opheim were closed with Plentywood and Scobey remaining. The complement of each station was two to three men with one being a Patrol Agent In Charge. Scobey was closed in 1948 and Plentywood remained with a complement of two, three or four men until 1953. There was but one officer stationed at Plentywood from 1953 to 1955.

The Wolf Point Station, with a complement of one Patrol Agent In Charge and three Patrol Agents, was established January 1, 1956. In November 1959 an additional Patrol Agent position was authorized and two of the Patrol Agents were relocated at Plentywood, under the supervision of the Patrol Agent In Charge at Wolf Point. In 1987 the Wolf Point Station was closed and relocated in Scobey. The Patrol Agent In Charge position was relocated at Plentywood.

The Plentywood Station is currently staffed by seven Senior Patrol Agents (one being a K-9 Handler), one Supervisory Border Patrol Agent, and one Patrol Agent In Charge. A new station was constructed in 2006 and is located at 31 Highway 16 North in Plentywood, Montana.

The station boundaries are described as follows:

From the Port of Entry at Whitetail; east for 56 miles along the International Border to the North Dakota state line; South along the Montana/North Dakota state line to Highway 2, then west along highway 2 to Poplar, then north to the Whitetail POE.

The local population in the immediate station area is less than 5000 people. The area adjacent to the border with Canada is also sparsely populated. Regina, with a population of 175,000 is southern Saskatchewan's major population center. Regina is approximately 120 miles north of both Plentywood and Scobey.

Plentywood is 310 miles east of Havre Sector Headquarters.
