FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Dover, New Jersey – February 3, 2009 – International Foodsource in cooperation with FDA is voluntarily recalling certain peanut containing products because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The company initiated the voluntary recall in response to the expanded recall by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). The FDA and other regulatory agencies have been investigating (PCA) due to a recent Salmonella outbreak associated with various peanut products. The FDA has advised that all products produced by PCA from its Blakely, Georgia facility are subject to recall.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Website at http://www.cdc.gov.

International Foodsource has utilized peanuts supplied by PCA at different times since January 1, 2007. International Foodsource has not received any complaints of consumer illness associated with these products. Our number one priority is the satisfaction of our consumers; this is strictly a precautionary recall to insure the safety of our customers.  It is important to note that all new peanut lots that International Foodsource is utilizing in its products come from suppliers other than PCA and are not affected by this recall.

The following products below are subject to this recall:
Valued Naturals:

No other International Foodsource products are impacted by the recall.

Instructions for disposition:

Store level; please destroy immediately.
Distribution Center; quarantine for pick up by International Foodsource.

As always food safety is of paramount importance to International Foodsource.  International Foodsource will continue to manufacture high quality products while making the health and safety of the consumer our number one priority. Consumers with questions regarding this recall may contact International Foodsource at 973-361-7044, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST.
