Title FORTY-THOUSAND HOURS ON IFO 380
Accession No 00658108
Journal Title MARINE LOG information Vol. 94 No. No.7
Publication Date   19890700
Description 1-1/3p.
Abstract Service experience with a French-owned ro/ro ship, the SAINT ROCH, demonstrates that the right medium speed auxiliaries can operate for extended periods on the same heavy fuel as the main engine. The experience of the first five years of operating the ship's Vasa 32 auxiliary engine on the same 380 cSt fuel as that used by the main engine is described. Graphs plot running time, in hours, against measured wear of the top piston ring groove height and the cylinder liner at the top piston ring TDC. Following overhaul and modification, the Vasa is headed for another five years and 40,000 hours of continuous operation under the same fuel arrangement.
